Storage of Crude Oil
and Products

For the storage of large amounts of liquid hydrocarbons, salt caverns most certainly offer the more adequate solution over surface
tank facilities.

Cavern storage provides the highest economic efficiency and operational
safety along with maximum environ-
mental sustainability and a low surface
area requirement.

Liquid hydrocarbons particularly suitable
for cavern storage are crude oil, fuel oil, diesel oil, gasoline and kerosene, but
also liquefied gases such as propane, butane, ethylene, and propylene.

Crude oil and fuels are frequently stored
for strategic reasons, while liquefied
gas storage is usually commercial or operational.
